Truss Hanging

The first picture shows us fastening down the sill plates that were mentioned as the first task after measuring the building - often handled while others lay out and assemble the trusses.   Once the entire top perimeter has sill plates secured, some of the guys move trusses from our outside stack to the inside of the building, and other guys start hanging them upside-down, one at a time, from the sill plates.  Running these processes in parallel helps things to move smoothly.   It also makes the most efficient use of the volunteer workforce - some of whom have to come and go to work or other obligations.  This is one of the more labor-intensive tasks, since these trusses are heavy and awkward to handle.  We usually pass one end up to a guy in a stationary position on the wall.  Another guy 'carrys' the opposite end up the ladder with the help of 2-3 guys, some using long, awkward, notched 2x4's to lift and steady the truss.
