Roof Shingling

Shingling is similar to sheeting regarding getting into a groove, but thankfully with easier packaging to handle.  Luckily, teaching shingling is pretty simple, because it's a labor- intensive task, so we need all the people we dare have on that roof!  We usually lay down the first couple of rows, then illustrate the staggered pattern, and let small crews run with it.  Both sides of the roof and a few layers at a time can be pursued that way, speeding things up greatly.

The project pictured was an excellent example of passing on skills, because we ran into a few time-consuming hurdles, and actually had to leave before the shingling was completed.   The local volunteers had no problem following our lead and finishing up beautifully.
